How Should I Take Melatonin?

Before taking this medicine, disclose your complete medical history, including any other drug you might be on. Talk to your healthcare provider in case you have any of the following conditions:

  • kidney disease
  • Liver disease
  • Low blood pressure
  • Mental health disease
  • An unusual or allergic reaction to Trazadone (Tizanidine), other medications, foods, dyes, or preservatives
  • Pregnant or trying to get pregnant
  • Breast-feeding

You must not stop the dose without consulting your doctor. If you are 65 years or older, this medicine might be too strong for you. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. But avoid taking a double dose. What may interact with this medication? Do not take this medication with any of the following:

  • Ciprofloxacin
  • Fluvoxamine
  • Narcotic medications for cough
  • Thiabendazole
  • Viloxazine

This drug can also interact with the following:

  • Acyclovir
  • Alcohol
  • Antihistamines for allergy, cough, and cold
  • Baclofen
  • Birth control pills
  • Certain medications for anxiety or sleep
  • Certain medications for blood pressure, heart disease, and irregular heartbeat like amiodarone, mexiletine, propafenone, verapamil
  • Certain medications for depression like amitriptyline, fluoxetine, sertraline
  • Certain medications for seizures like phenobarbital, primidone
  • Cimetidine
  • Clonidine
  • Famotidine
  • General anesthetics like halothane, isoflurane, methoxyflurane, propofol
  • Guanfacine
  • Medications for sleep
  • Medications that relax muscles for surgery
  • Methyldopa
  • Narcotic medications for pain
  • Phenothiazines like chlorpromazine, prochlorperazine, thioridazine
  • Ticlopidine
  • Zileuton

Take this drug with water by mouth. Follow the directions on the label. It can be taken with or without food. The same approach should be taken at all times. Unless instructed otherwise by your care team, do stop taking the medicine. If you disrupt the course suddenly, it might lead to unexpected problems.

Does Melatonin have Side effects?

Allergic reactions

  • Skin rash, itching, hives, and swelling of the lips, tongue, or throat are examples of allergic reactions.
  • CNS depression is characterized by shallow or slow breathing, lightheadedness, disorientation, and difficulty remaining awake.
  • Hallucinations
  • Right upper abdominal pain, nausea, lack of appetite, light-colored face, dark yellow or brown urine, yellowing of the skin or eyes, and unusual weakness or weariness are all signs of liver injury.
